President and CEO, Food Bank of Iowa

Michelle Book began her role as president and CEO of the Food Bank of Iowa on February 1, 2106.  Prior to this position, Michelle led Community & Academic Relations for DuPont Pioneer. In this role, she was responsible for global corporate social responsibility efforts, including philanthropic giving, community betterment, employee engagement, academic outreach, and management of university relationships for Pioneer.  

Prior to her time at Pioneer, Michelle served as the Global Compliance Manager for John Deere Finance, implementing Sarbanes Oxley worldwide and ensuring observance of regulations and laws pertaining to data privacy and finance across John Deere’s global footprint.  

Michelle serves on the following local community boards and councils:  US Bank Advisory Council, Des Moines Botanical Garden, and Brenton Arboretum.  She is also a member of the Des Moines Noon Rotary and Nexus Executive Women’s Alliance.  In the past, she served as board chair and member of BRAVO Greater Des Moines, a member of the Governor's STEM Advisory Counsel, and an advisor to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.  Michelle was honored to be recognized as a Des Moines Woman of Influence in 2014.

Michelle is originally from Jefferson, Iowa and resides in Des Moines, Iowa.  She holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Iowa State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.  Her career has spanned opportunities in hog farming, healthcare, business management, and non-profit. In her free time, she enjoys sharing great food with interesting people, relaxing with yoga, and recreating in nature.  


Food Bank of Iowa

Food Bank of Iowa is a private, not-for-profit organization committed to its mission of providing food to Iowa children, families and seniors to lead full and active lives, strengthening the communities where they live. Food Bank of Iowa distributes donated food and grocery products through Iowa’s largest network of emergency food providers, consisting of about 500 partner agencies in 55 counties. Last year, Food Bank of Iowa distributed 11,059,646 meals through its network of partners and direct service programs. Food Bank of Iowa operates distribution centers in Des Moines and Ottumwa.
