2009 Iowa Hunger Summit
The 2009 Iowa Hunger Summit was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown Hotel from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The “Hunger Luncheon” featured a keynote address by Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America and remarks by First Lady Mari Culver and Bishop Pates.
In addition to hunger-related sessions hosted by partners including the Harvest Initiative and the Community Food Security Coalition, the USDA held a special listening session seeking ideas to accomplish President Obama’s pledge to end hunger among U.S. children by 2015.

- Over the year Iowans donated $8.72 Million for the fight against hunger.
- 15.6 Million pounds of food were distributed.
- Volunteers spent 451,000 hours helping the cause.
