Description:

The Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL) helps small landholder farmers in Kamuli District, Uganda to achieve food security, improve household nutrition, and stabilize income through sustainable crop and livestock production, access to marketing opportunities, school gardens and lunch programs, and mother/child nutrition education centers. CSRL also provides support for malnourished children, widows, and families living with HIV/AIDS.

CSRL works with partners in the US and developing countries to improve the livelihoods of rural people. Through learning and discovery, these partners train community volunteers in practices that will alleviate food insecurity and poverty. CSRL’s focus on improving the food security, nutrition and health of the poor is rooted in the land-grant mission of Iowa State University and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

How to Help:

Students and faculty at Iowa State University have many opportunities to become involved with the activities of CSRL, including through academic research and the student service-learning program.

Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the activities of CSRL should contact the center staff at csrl@iastate.edu. CSRL accepts donations online.
