Description:

As a community of faith, Central Presbyterian Church members and friends are sent by God into a broken world to work for its healing and reconciliation. Led by our World & Community Concerns Committee and our Deacons, we put our faith into action and help meet the needs of our community and our world by sharing our gifts and participating in hands-on service projects.

Current mission ministries include work with serving a monthly meal at the Central Iowa Shelter and Services; food collection for the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) food pantry; packaging food at Meals from the Heartland, contributions to CROSS Outreach, Our Sister Parish—in El Salvador and to the Harvest Offering mission of the Presbytery of Des Moines Compassion, Peace and Justice Committee; a twice annual food basket delivery partnership with DMARC; sponsorship of weekly tutoring with EverybodyWinsIowa.org program during the school year for children who need a boost in their reading skills; a refugee re-settlement team and support partnership with the U.S. Committee for Refugees & Immigrants (USCRI) Des Moines office; our children’s Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School also accept the mission challenge.

How to Help:

Whether it is serving a meal at a homeless shelter in Des Moines or sponsoring resettlement of a refugee family, Central provides a place for everyone to be involved in sharing the love of Christ around the world. Iowans are encouraged to contact the church office for more information or to become involved.
