Description:

MEANS (Matching Excess And Need for Stability) Database modernizes food recovery by connecting excess food to organizations and individuals who need it. MEANS is a web communications platform where businesses with excess food — such as restaurants, caterers, or grocery stores — are connected to nearby nonprofit emergency food providers, like soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and food banks. In as little as one minute, food donors can find a charity that will use their unsold food to feed those in need. In its first five years, MEANS has successfully recovered and rerouted over 3.4 million pounds of food to those in need.

How to Help:

Food pantries, other emergency feeding systems and donors can sign up to start communicating at http://www.meansdatabase.org. To learn more, check out the MEANS Database website or visit their Facebook page.
