Description: The mission of S M Sehgal Foundation is to strengthen community-led development initiatives to achieve positive social, economic, and environmental change across rural India. The founders, Suri and Edda Sehgal, established Sehgal Foundation in the United States in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit charity, and S M Sehgal Foundation in India a year later in 1999 as a public, charitable trust. Based in Gurugram, Haryana, S M Sehgal Foundation has benefited families and individuals in more than 1,000 villages across 10 states and still expanding. The organization programs address the most pressing issues—water scarcity, food scarcity, and social justice—with emphasis on promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. Foundation teams partner with communities and individuals to enhance their information, skills, and technologies to better manage their water resources, increase their agricultural productivity, and promote good rural governance that facilitates citizen participation and strengthens grassroots democracy. The Transform Lives one school at a time program furthers each of the primary goals by transforming the lives of schoolchildren with empowerment programs, life skills and digital literacy, and infrastructure renewals that provide the tools for them to have a more promising future. How to Help Iowans can join Sehgal Foundation's Transform Lives one school at a time initiative by sending contributions to Sehgal Foundation. All donations are matched 1:1 by Dr. Suri Sehgal and Mrs. Edda Sehgal.
