Summary:

Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) will host a panel with The Partnership for a Healthier America to discuss a unique approach to private sector partnerships. The Partnership for a Healthier America will discuss the workings of the partnership commitment process to make the healthy choice the easy choice, look at both supply side and demand side commitment arenas, and introduce a new stream of work with food banks and pantries. DMARC, one of the first partners in this area with PHA, will share their experience in exploring innovative ways of incentivizing healthy eating at food pantries and their commitment to PHA.

This breakout targets businesses and social service agencies that are interested in nutrition and wellness efforts on a community level. By partnering with private sector organizations, the Partnership for a Healthier America hopes to give all children the opportunity to grow up at a healthy weight.

About the Organizations:

The Partnership for a Healthier America

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. They bring together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most importantly, they ensure that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making to show everyone what can be achieved when we all work together.

DMARC

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) works together with over 120 member congregations from four different faith traditions to meet basic human needs for the greater Des Moines community. The DMARC Food Pantry Network was founded in 1976, and is the largest pantry network system in the state. Today, the Food Pantry Network works with 13 different partner food pantries, as well as a Mobile Food Pantry, to serve over 16,000 individuals in our community every month.
