Public Forum on Water Quality

Attendees will learn the impact Iowa’s farming and food systems have on Iowa’s water quality, discuss ideas for reducing water pollution and discuss policy strategies to help improve water quality. The event is free to attend.

Roger Wolf, Director of Environmental Programs and Services, Iowa Soybean Association, will discuss what Iowa soybean farmers are doing and can do to reduce nutrient runoff and soil degradation.

Mike McCurnin, Director of Water Production, Des Moines Water Works, will discuss problems DMWW has had with water quality due to nitrates in the city's water supply.

Rick Kruse, Professor of Agronomy at Iowa State University, will discuss his research at ISU with crop production and tillage systems, soil and water conservation, and the soil erosion calculator.

Following speaker presentations, participants will discuss ideas for reducing nutrient runoff, and participants will be able to engage in a dialogue about possible policy strategies to improve soil and water quality across the state.
