Description: The Urban Bicycle Food Ministry - Des Moines sponsors a weekly bike ride (or car distribution) to deliver burritos, sandwiches and essentials to homeless and hungry in Des Moines. We build relationships with people that may be hungry and provide a premier non-denominational, volunteer opportunity for people to serve and encounter those that may be hungry. Each Thursday, 52 weeks out of the year, UBFM Des Moines serves food to the homeless and food insecure in the Des Moines area from our bicycles. Each week we serve 300+ Des Moines residents 700 burritos, 250 PBJs, 250 turkey and cheese sandwiches, two crates of banana and two crates of oranges. How to Help: As a small 501 (c) 3 organization that started out as a grass roots effort 5 years ago, we are looking for monetary donations. We also are always looking for volunteers to help prepare and distribute food. Note: You don't have to ride a bike to join us! Two of our eight regular routes throughout the city of Des Moines are car routes.
