Description:

Family Promise of Greater Des Moines (FPGD) mobilizes the community to help homeless families achieve stable housing and income through compassionate care, hospitality and professional support. FPGD is an affiliate of Family Promise; a nonprofit corporation based in Summit, New Jersey.

Family Promise of Greater Des Moines assists homeless families with children through a network of 14 area faith-based host congregations that provide clean, safe overnight shelter and nutritious meals for a period of one week every three months. The host congregations provide each family with a private room for sleeping as well as supper and food for breakfast and for packing a sack lunch each day.

Guests are provided a safe, secure place to be during the day at their Day Center which is located at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

How to Help:

Individuals and groups can support the work of Family Promise of Greater Des Moines through donations and by volunteering with programming at the Day Center, driving the FPGD van, and nonprofit administrative and operations support. Members of host congregations may also be able to help provide hospitality to guest families during their congregation's host week.

Religious communities can become involved by becoming host congregations or support congregations.
