Description: The Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation is a non-profit corporation with an all-volunteer board dedicated to the preservation of the Birthplace and Boyhood home of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug (1914-2009), where he established his values and work ethic. The Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation is committed to preserving the boyhood farm and promoting Dr. Borlaug's lifetime achievements and philosophy by welcoming a diversity of local, national, and international visitors to the farm, through education programs such as the Fall and Spring Inspire Education Days and the Education Residency Program, and by hosting agricultural, environmental and humanitarian events on the Borlaug farmstead. Since 2000, the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation has had the privilege of preserving both the birthplace, boyhood farm and the one room school Dr. Borlaug attended as a boy. We have two primary goals, first we are dedicated to preserving the farm where he grew up and learned the values of hard work and respect for the land and life. Second, we conduct a variety of educational outreach programs designed to pass along these important life lessons. Learning opportunities including a children's picture book, secondary curriculum for older students, and an activity book all created by a NBHF Education Resident Scholars and Borlaug-Thomson Interns. Other things done and continue to happen are conferences with a key goal of the NBHF is education. Each summer the NBHF hosts a one-day ag institute at the Borlaug farm with latest information on sustainable agriculture. Inspire Day is held twice a year (spring and fall) for fifth grade students. At Inspire Day kids are given a chance to learn a range of educational skills including agriculture, science, social studies and environmental science. Dr. Borlaug was passionate about the importance of education and so is the NBHF! "Our elementary schooling was a preparation for life not for academic achievement." Dr. Norman Borlaug. How to Help: The Foundation board has set the long term endowment goal at $7,000,000. Interest earned on this goal would fund a full-time Borlaug Education Residency Program, Borlaug Farm Preservation and Maintenance Program in perpetuity. We are supported by many volunteers. However, in order to advance our mission of restoring the farm where Norm grew up and educate others about the importance of service to others, your financial help is critical. Please contact the NBHF or make an online donation on our website at www.normanborlaug.org.
