Oelwein FFA Chapter

Description: Students and educators with the Oelwein FFA Chapter work to alleviate hunger through educational and service-learning projects. The Oelwein FFA Chapter currently conducts a variety of local activities in this endeavor, including a local Feed a Family project to donate 25 meal boxes and turkeys to area families in need (chosen and delivered through a local church food pantry) during the week of Thanksgiving. In 2017, two FFA members worked to organize a local Meals from the Heartland event for the entire Oelwein High School to successfully pack 40,167 meals in one day. About 25 Oelwein FFA members have also participated in the Meals from the Heartland event each year at the annual Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference in Ames every April, and has sent about 20 students to participate in the annual World Food Prize (Iowa Youth Institute and related events) over the past 5 years. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of members by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. A large part of that development can be held in the context of alleviating hunger in our local communities, our state, our nation, and abroad. How to Help: Iowans are encouraged to contact Mr. Dan Doeing at ddoeing@oelwein.k12.ia.us or Mrs. Megan McCleary at mmccleary@oelwein.k12.ia.us for more information and to explore opportunities to work together.
