Heath Henderson

Associate Professor of Economics, Drake University

Heath Henderson is an associate professor of economics at Drake University and an associate editor of the Journal of Human Development and Capabilities. He attended graduate school at American University in Washington, DC where he received a PhD in economics and an MA in international politics. Heath recently finished his first book Poor Relief: Why Giving People Money is Not the Answer to Global Poverty, which will be published through Harvard University Press later this year.

Heath recently founded JustGive Participatory Philanthropy, a non-profit with the goal of alleviating global poverty. JustGive is based on a unique approach that aims to give people in need a genuine voice in poverty-alleviation efforts. Not only do people in need know their lives best but they also have a right to be heard. JustGive is currently working on its first project – the Iowa Food Security Forum – which aims to solicit the opinions of food insecure Iowan on how to combat food insecurity in the state.
