Description:

The annual Norman Borlaug 5K Run/Walk/Bike Ride is held annually in conjunction with other festivities of the Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest every September. Dr. Borlaug was born and raised in Howard County on a small farm south of Cresco. He devoted his career to saving the lives of millions of starving people around the globe.

This event is a competitive run with the Walk and Family Bike Ride planned as fun events for people of all ages. It is a great way to get involved and make a difference. For the bike ride there is a scavenger hunt that is fun and educational with information on Dr. Borlaug and hunger/food security facts. WAITT is the acronym given for: We're All In This Together in which is helping some very good causes. Helping and feeding people, encouraging exercise and wellness and paying forward the message of Dr. Norman Borlaug is something we all can do.

Participation helps in 5 Non-Profits, 4 local and one for the community at large that is decided each each year by the committee. NORMAN BORLAUG HERITAGE FOUNDATION, DON DAVIS GOOD SAMARITAN FUND, PRARIE SPRINGS RECREATIONAL TRAIL, LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES IN CRESCO AND RICEVILLE.

How to Help:

Individuals, businesses, and congregations in Howard County can join in the Walk as participants and by raising money to support hunger alleviation. The Norman Borlaug 5K Run/Walk/Bike Ride encourages all Iowans to visit the Norman Borlaug Birthplace and see how he lived.
