Iowa Hunger Calendar

THE IOWA HUNGER SUMMIT is held each year during the World Food Prize's week of events in October at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel Downtown. It kicks off the events, preceding the Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium, also known as the "Borlaug Dialogue."  The Iowa Hunger Summit gathers hundreds of leaders from across Iowa representing community organizations, business and industry, state and local government, social agencies, churches and religious communities, schools and universities, and other groups that lead or participate in projects to eradicate hunger.

This all day conference, which includes a special Hunger Luncheon, is free and open to the public. The program features speakers and special panel sessions with leaders and experts in confronting hunger, poverty and malnutrition, both at home and abroad. The Governor and bipartisan representatives from the Iowa Legislature are regular attendees at the Hunger Luncheon, which also features the presentation of Robert D. Ray Iowa SHARES Humanitarian Award. Featured speakers at past Hunger Summits include: former Secretaries of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, Dan Glickman, Ann Veneman, Mike Johanns, and Ed Schafer; Diana Aviv, CEO of Feeding America; Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, the founder of Mary's Meals; Howard G. Buffet; and Roger Thurow, the author of "The First 1000 Days."
